Two weeks to get it right: an update on housing and sustainability.

Housing: Check

I will be converting a 1970’s yacht I found for free on Craigslist into a living quarters, and eventually a sea worthy vessel (needs work on the engine, but the boat is clean with no blisters. America still has the best damn trash in the world!)

Land: No Check

There are a few options, but I can get no one to email or call me back. I’m worried, but not that worried, as I have never had anyone in this town return a phone call or an email in any kind of timely manner since I’ve been here. Also, the fundraising continues. I still need to raise about $1500 to pull this all off.

Storage unit: Partial Check

Again, there are storage units. I just keep finding the people I need out to lunch when I try to snatch one. Literally. The office take a two hour lunch break in the middle of the day every day (finally picking up on their patterns), and this is the one walking distance to my house, and that’s how I’ll be shuttling all of my stuff: on foot. So I have the funds, I know which space, it’s just not official.

Tow: ???

  1. Difficulty getting anyone to call me back with a quote. But two places who cannot help me finally got back to me. But I’m following up a lead today!
  2. I ..don’t know what this will cost. I am guessing around $500? One place that pulls cars quoted $350…if my boat were a car. One place quoted me $2000, if it were a bigger boat going across the country, but they don’t do local. I need a small boat to go somewhere between 1 and 30 miles, depending on where the land is.

Process: A Digital Cabaret

This is a show exclusively for online audiences that will be coming out within the next two weeks, done in blog format. A mix of Shakespearean monologue and vlog style rants; original songs and pop hits from the 70s, 80’s, 90’s and beyond, this digital cabaret explores what it takes to be brave and stand up for yourself in times of chaos and terror.

I couldn’t be more excited to show you what I’ve put together! There is still a bit of work to be done, but I’m determined to get this out before I’m out on the street! Or, even better, out in my yacht! (Oh, please, oh, please, oh, please let me find a place to take it and a way to move it!)

SmutBones and Fundraiser

I’ve tried fundraising for the arts in just about every way you can imagine, trying to find an exchange that feels good to both artists and patrons, and that actually gives the arts a leg to stand on.

It’s been an uphill battle. And I suspect it always will be.

But SmutBones, I believe, does an excellent job of getting both artists and patrons everything they need. The arts are always confused about whether they are a charity or a business. But SmutBones acts like store credit, allowing me to fundraise for money when it’s needed to start projects, while giving supporters credit to purchase anything I put out for sale in the shop, including merch, handcrafted items, and theatre tickets.

It’s also flexible in that it will allow for alternate currency as the US Dollar plummets. You can even barter objects that I need for their cash value in SmutBones! Did you buy a solar generator and never use it? Send it my way, and you’ve got store credit with me!

Unlike a subscription, you don’t have to feel obligated to get everything I do (I recognize people come to me for various things) and can pick and choose what resonates. Your SmutBones never expire, so you can use a little or blow the whole stack of bones

SmutBones is also an excellent way to make the arts accessible, as they can act like a layaway account. Not to mention, the upfront funding helps me continue putting the bulk of what I do out for free.

To answer the question: this isn’t cryptocurrency. It’s basically like a gift card. I keep track of your transactions in a notebook, not a block chain. And you can argue with me, a human, about how many SmutBones you should have if your records indicate something different. And I’ll listen!

I’m still trying to raise $1500 (down from $5000!). I have until July 1st to pull everything together, or I’m out on the street. But when we pull this off, the entire trajectory changes!

Thank you for supporting me and my work. I can’t do this without you!

In Memoriam: Jimmy

I want to apologize for not getting my thank you cards out to those who have donated so far. It’s been a very eventful week, including the passing of our beloved cat Jimmy. He was four years old, and loved to do somersaults on my legs whenever I was sitting. If I had to squat down to pick something up, he liked to play this game where he tucked himself under my butt and then popped out between my legs. I don’t know why he liked to reenact his own birth, but he thought it was great fun. He was the best hunter of the three, and would frequently bring live birds into the house to chase around. But he was also the sweetest boy–no one was more overjoyed by cuddles and love.

Waiting patiently for me to join him in the bathroom for leg somersaults.

He got sick and died suddenly, on my lap on the way to the vet. I don’t know what happened, but all of our hearts are broken.

We love you Jimmy, and we will never forget you!
