Interim housing isn’t housing. It’s transience.

I know that right now, the world wants a hero. And that it seems crazy to go after Democrats when the right are actual Nazis.

But I am so worried that people need a Democratic hero so bad, they are going to fall for Gavin Newsom’s schtick. and Gavin Newsom –and quite frankly, the CA Democrats as a group–are fascist. And they are very, very, very, very bad at helping the poor and the marginalized.

But they are very, very good at seeming like they do.

Let’s talk about all of the spending they do to “fight homelessness,” but which really is about fighting the homeless. And making them conform. And punishing them if they don’t.

You know it because they spend money on interim housing. Which is transience. They spend the money on keeping homeless people in a cycle of constantly being kicked out of their house.

The getting kicked out part is the devastating blow where you suddenly lose your house, all your belongings, and have to start over on the street. Every time you do this, transience becomes more permanent, and housing becomes more impossible.

But this continues because the people have been trained not to help the homeless, and instead, to punish them.

It’s certainly never taken into account that perhaps homeless people might want a say in who our elected officials are, who make these rules, but are barred from voting when their address is always changing.

And the people of California who are Democrats don’t question the endless spending, because they are trained to believe spending equals helping.

But sometimes the endless spending is proof of not helping at all. Sometimes it’s proof that they are taking tax payer money and setting it on fire every single year to keep us all poor and compliant, meanwhile always having an issue to fundraise on, and always having a complaint against Republicans that makes them sound terrible (like they need help): “They cut off our funding to help the homeless! Please donate so we can fight them!”

Because the truth is it’s much cheaper to end homelessness than it is to continuously fund transience with interim housing: just give them homes they can keep forever.

“No! No! No! We can’t just give it to them! They won’t be responsible enough! They have to prove they are worth it first?”

According to whom? These are people who are barred from a say in society. And so long as they are purposefully “managed” instead of helped, they are living under fascism, and we are the fascists, who believe they should not have rights, but should rather be compliant with the state.

And I tell you, I am sick to death of the fascism masquerading as aid.

But the fact is, the Democrats have exactly one chance, with Trump in office, to use the funds they have now (since they won’t be getting anymore) to END homelessness.

What they are going to tell you is that they need you to contribute to their fundraiser, so they can get re-elected, and get the funds to “fight homelessness” in the future. They will never fight homelessness with interim housing. They will only fight the homeless.

And they may not even get a chance at another election.

My hope is that we come together on this issue, and collectively demand permanent housing across the nation, now. But my guess is people will refuse to see it until they themselves are in the same situation. Which they will be.

The rents always rise. The wages plummet as the gig economy takes over, and industries like Hollywood just crumble and die in favor of tech. Here in California, and under the Democrats in this state, this is the reality. And when people are homeless, they are given interim housing that will “help them” so long as they live their lives in a way that props up corporations, the architects of fascism in the United States.

It’s evil. And it’s achieving the same ends as the Republicans by playing on people’s sympathies rather than playing on their hatred.

I urge you to demand permanent housing –the land a property sits on–be the focus of homelessness spending where you are. Because you can’t fight transience with more transience, and everything else is a mindfuck game.

The Democrats have to be the ones we work on, because they are the ones who depend on being seen as pro-democracy and helpful to the marginalized.

Make them actually help. Make them prove it. Because if they don’t, we will not get another chance.

It’s up to us to create stability where it’s being shattered. That means not saying it’s good enough when they spend money on perpetuating a problem. It means calling them out plainly –Interin housing = transience. Let them know we all see it now.

And it also means trying to accumulate land for ourselves, because they are very attached to hurting people to control them, as all fascists are, and are not going to readily let go of this very effective tool.

I am very close to my goal of ending my own constant displacement and transience. And when you purchase Bones, our version of store credit, you make it possible for me to live, work and sustain.

I have until July 1st to make my goal, but the sooner the better. I want to thank you for supporting artists directly. It’s the only way the arts can be funded right now in any effective way, and it keeps people alive.

Art kills crime. And as Virginia Woolf said, all you need to make art (write) is a little bit of money and a room of one’s own.

We’ve had enough crime. Thank you for funding art!
