But what IS Process?
Process is a multimedia digital cabaret in blog format, where personal stories and musings mix with alternative rock and Hamlet soliloquies to create a garage grunge musical that will BLOW YOUR EVERLOVING MIND!
I hope. This show is being put together up until the last minute–I will know what it is when you do. But that’s part of the fun. Process experiments with how a show is constructed in order to give it a theatre feel. I’ll be adding a “DVD extras/theatre talk back” section for ticket holders who want to know about the process of Process. Get your dramaturgy on!
But even as I’m still putting the finishing touches on it, I can say definitively that I am very proud of this and very happy that I can put this out on this Independence Day. Process is a show about finding your bravery when the world falls apart, and what is worth sacrificing for freedom from tyranny.
When I started working on this, my primary goal was simply to try and recite Shakespeare in a way that is easy to hear and listen to. Our illiteracy, and the intimidation people feel around the classics is, to say the least, a tremendous shame. The works of William Shakespeare have always been a comfort to me, proving at every turn that our mental anguish is not unique, that there is humor and love everywhere, even in the tragedy of it all. He’s still the best and there is just no getting around it. Though bad actors do try.
But it’s morphed into something much bigger than that. Whether or not this show makes waves, it has for me. In it, I found my approach to this brave new world, and have brought together all of the disparate pieces I’ve been working on for the past few years.
I call it a cabaret for the variety aspect, but if I wanted no one to watch this, I could also call this reader’s theatre. To retain a live feel, I use rehearsal takes. Perfection doesn’t live here, but emotional presence is prioritized.
The result is something truly raw and different. I can’t wait to show it to you. Get your tickets immediately if not sooner!
And, of course, you can get as many bones as you like for future use!
Now, let’s back-pedal and talk about the fundraiser.
I got the land in the 11th hour through the offer of a couple of commissions. Hallelujah! Thank you so much to all who contributed and got the ball rolling the other way. The last big hurdle is the tow and move itself. And every penny from this move goes towards that. My days here are numbered (literally). And while there is still a lot to do, to say a weight has been lifted is an understatement. Having a home destination to move towards is LITERALLY EVERYTHING. I mean, it’s just simply all there is.
Despair is how they get you to give up. We cannot let the despair take us.
You kept me from despairing when you helped me find a home. I hope, I hope, I hope that with Process, I can give a little of that back and keep despair at bay for you, as well.
It’s Hamlet. It’s Tori Amos. It’s dark. But keep going, Pandora. There’s hope at the bottom of the box.
