The end of the world. The beginning of life.

I can’t believe I went from being in such despair to…this.

No filter. No, really.
College kids we stumbled on, presumably practicing for the school recruiting poster.
This is like the first photo, only black and white!

I can’t lie, this whole week has had a strange and mystical quality. Even with its ups and downs and false starts, everything seemed to work out in such a way that felt like destiny.

Black cats keeping watch everywhere I go

When the shed was delayed, I had to stay with Dean, the moving guy I found on Craigslist–and what a find! We made fast friends immediately, and found out 1. Our birthdays are within a week of each other 2. We were both born in Texas and fled very early. 3. We have very nearly the same last name. And loads of other stuff. But that he was the perfect guy to move me–willing to go the extra mile and get into the spirit of the thing, while providing great advice and keeping me calm–it could have gone a lot worse. While staying at his house, we walked all of five minutes to see the lookout at The End of the World, seen above. The black cat belonged to a neighbor of his.

But we did eventually make it out to the property to build the shed.

I fired up the stove and made coffee. I will survive!

Speaking of neighbors, he brought his neighbor Sam (who can also play banjo and has also lived in a van, like myself) to come help us out up the shed.

The piece of shit shed with crappy directions and missing parts and wrong parts galore.

View from the coffee shop when I didn’t feel like firing up the stove again.
The shed direction were crap and all the parts were wrong, but these guys I barely even know went all out to help me get it done. It’s a crappy, thin shed I need to abandon for a better one as soon as possible. But it’s mine!
The foreman

The boys brought their dogs, which terrified the cats, and I hope one day they stop hiding. But I have to say, I am sold on poodles. Wonderful dogs with sassy rock star hair. I’m no dog person, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea out here, and if no other breed proves better, I’m team poodle!

The cats did eventually stop hiding after the boys left with their dogs. Now they are staying out all day, coming home at night, and giving me a good solid two hours of worry free sleep before they start burrowing under me to lift me out of bed, so I can let them out again. They are in love with the place. I am afraid of bears.

I went with Mike to go dump some lumber he needed removed from his property. We dumped them in this mystical site because it’s the only place you can burn in the summer.

Another update soon! There is scant electricity for me, and blogging is very laborious, but I will work out a system very soon!

Those shots of the trees and hills are very picturesque. Sorry to see you’re having issues with your shed but hopefully it’ll improve soon.
