I’ve been recording, plotting and piecing together programming for SmutMag Radio, and I have to say, I am extremely excited. My home was radio all along. I cannot wait to unveil it to you.
Now, as usual, I always get started with what I have on hand, whether or not it is sufficient by other people’s standards. It is the only way a person such as myself can move fast. High production value is great and all, but it’s the kind of great only money can buy. And I need to find other methods.
But, as usual, I enjoy the reality that comes from it. SmutMag Radio is filled with high production pop hit classics…and also, me walking around a room, bumping into things, talking into my phone. And not my yeti mic, which is in storage 2 and a half hours away, (and I still don’t have a bike).
There’s something very intimate about it, though, this starting with nothing. Because what it amounts too is something that is both human and highly curated. Content is put out slowly, and on repeat, because I can’t afford to buy tons of albums at a time and I have no media here.
But it also lets you get to know me on a desert island. You get five or six albums on a desert island to play on rotation for a week or so. What are they? What five or six albums make the best playlist?
And then we get to get intimate with it.
It reminds me of when I was a kid and the multidisk cd player would have the same 5 CD’s in it until you were sick of it enough to get up and change it.
But that takes longer than you think. It’s nice to spend some time. In fact, it’s a whole lot richer.
I have a couple of hours worth of daytime material and about an hour of night time material that I’ll be adding to all the rest of this week. And it’s meandering and raw, which is, like, kind of my thing. *Hair flip.*
🙂
I rant about the bigger picture on pretty privilege, and how jargon has led to a world dominated by charlatans. And I’m sure I’ll say even more stuff about more things and maybe even read you a book of poetry or something as well.
I’m treating this like it’s my club. I’m in here alone at the moment (though I’m thrilled at how many people have tuned in to listen already! I chose the right desert island rotation!). But I’m hoping I can invite people in to jam with me!
In fact, if you are an audio artist who wants to submit a track, contact me here. Whether you’re a comedian, a musician, a talker, a team of people who made a radio drama, an erotic audio maker–whatever–and you’d like to submit a track, Contact me!
And for those who are eagerly awaiting the “After Dark” programming, there are a lot more ways you can participate! You’ll be seeing a section on our “After Dark” programming soon.
If you listened to the SmutMag Podcast on SmutMag Radio (which you can catch daily at 12pm and 8pm PST this week), you know that the shed I currently stay in was taken apart by a bear.

Yes, things are always action-packed around SmutMag Headquarters, but that only spurs us on to create even bigger, better sheds! A shed so grand, it constitutes a shack!
A radio shack.
Behold!

It’s not done yet. But I think we can all feel the SPECTACULAR possibilities! I will not pretend to have built this, this is entirely the doing of my neighbor who is a sympathetic contractor.
Get to know your neighbors!
This shed will eventually be an “Overnight office.” A broadcasting space with a bed in it. For us artistic weirdos who like to sleep in a pile of our work. I can’t lose sight of the mission: Create housing that works for artistic independence and can be passed on to other artists when I’m gone.
I’ve found an RV that is currently getting ready for tow. It’s a fixer-upper, but is dry as a bone, and quite charming. This is the outdoor kitchen.
And this should get me through the winter–and hopefully will be made strong enough to get me through the rest of my days if I needed it to. But it should be more than adequate to get me started building the real house.
Everything falls apart all of the time. But that doesn’t negate the fact that I am really on my way with this. And its only made possible by supporters.
With the radio station, can expect a whole new menu of ways to redeem your bones–which means now is the very best time to get some! The infrastructure is very close to getting me in a position to give back in a big way. This is definitely the time to stock up on Bones! It not only enables me to bring you more music, more programming and better sound, but it builds up an arts and crafts savings account right as there is a lot more on offer.
The official launch of the radio station will be Monday. But you can hear me fool around at this link (and if you’ve been listening all week, this is a new link. You’re listening to my “free trial station. This is the real deal. Or, it will be on Monday).
Thank you for reading and listening. This radio station is absolutely the venue for me in this world in 2025, and just like with the land, my goal is to cherish it and try to put things out that are worthy of you, and worthy of me.
