I could feel it. There is a shift happening. The artists are waking up, they’re getting out of their boxes, getting weird, and suddenly caring about quality over trends.
I’ve added this song to the SmutMag Radio playlist. But the video is definitely worth a watch.
Other recent additions include Tom Jones’ 2022 album, “Surrounded by Time” an incredible and soulful meditation on wisdom and aging, with Tom Jones’ signature vocals and song interpretation only made richer and more nuanced by the years. While his vocals are as powerful and impressive as ever, it’s his cadence and storytelling that makes this album so deeply moving, cheeky and exciting. I never have enough good things to say about Tom Jones, and now on his 80’s, he is still able to surprise an audience and top himself, artistically.
I’ve also added the iconic album “Flood” by They Might Be Giants. Every single song on the album is a joyful relief to hear, while still being completely relevant to the horrifying politics of the day.
And, of course, I had to make sure to add Joe Cocker’s album “A Little Help From My Friends” if I want SmutMag Radio to represent the most soul stirring music humans are capable of.
And, finally, to get us into the Christmas spirit, I’ve added what is simply the best Christmas compilation album of all time: the original, 1987 “A Very Special Christmas,” featuring what i feel are pretty much the best versions of these Christmas classics, period: Annie Lennox doing “Winter Wonderland.” Madonna doing “Santa Baby.” Bruce Springsteen doing “Merry Christmas, Baby.” And especially Run DMC’s “Christmas in Hollis.”
The playlist keeps growing and keeps getting more awesome! Tune into SmutMag Radio any time you feel the urge to scroll!
